When Is Reflexology Not Suitable?
Your wellbeing is always the priority.
Reflexology is a gentle, holistic therapy that supports relaxation and balance. For most people, it is a safe and enjoyable experience. However, there are times when treatment may not be appropriate.
❌ Reflexology may not be suitable if you:
-
Are currently unwell with a contagious illness (e.g. COVID-19, flu, norovirus)
-
Have a fever or active infection
-
Have deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or an embolism
-
Have cellulitis, open wounds, or fungal infections on the feet or hands
-
Have had major surgery within the last 6 weeks
-
Are experiencing unexplained pain, swelling, or bleeding
⚠️ You may need medical consent or an adapted treatment if you:
-
Are pregnant (particularly in the first trimester or with a high-risk pregnancy)
-
Have diabetes, heart conditions, or blood pressure issues
-
Are undergoing cancer treatment or recovering from recent illness
-
Have epilepsy or complex neurological conditions
-
Are managing mental health challenges that affect relaxation or touch
-
Have recent fractures, injuries, or severe skin conditions
👣 Localised issues (e.g. verrucae, bruises) may simply be avoided during treatment.
If you are unsure whether reflexology is right for you, just ask! I am happy to advise and adapt where needed.
